Designed by Ana Hernández of Valencia-based Masquespacio, the newest outpost of the Ichi Station sushi bar chain has landed on Via Solferino in Milan—housed in a historic building and reimagined as a playful, futuristic pod of soft curves and glowing peach tones.

Unlike the brand’s primarily takeout-focused locations (eight in Milan and one in Turin), this latest restaurant marks a shift in direction. Founder and CEO Yango Zhang envisioned a bold new dining experience—something immersive and expressive—for guests choosing to eat in.

Spanning 80 square metres (861 sq. ft), the space evokes a space-age diner, with arched tunnel-like corridors, glowing orange surfaces, and illuminated custom tables. Thin strips of LED lighting trace the existing architectural arches, creating a surreal sci-fi ambiance.

With this dramatic, cinematic setting, Masquespacio offers more than visual impact—it crafts a dining environment that transports guests not only through flavor, but also through imagination and atmosphere.

Ichi Station describes itself as a cultural crossroads—born from the spirit of travel, discovery, and shared experience. The brand’s culinary identity blends traditional Japanese techniques with global influences, creating a sensory journey from plate to place.

The menu is helmed by Chef Haruo Ichikawa, formerly of Michelin-starred Iyo in Milan. His innovative yet precise approach is also showcased at Magnolia GastroBar at the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, among other ventures.

Founded in 2010 by Ana Hernández Palacios and Christophe Penasse, Masquespacio is celebrated for its eclectic approach to design—merging color, geometry, and storytelling across interiors, branding, and product design. Their work consistently surprises, and we’ve spotlighted several of their projects in the past.

With Ichi Station Milan, Masquespacio and Yango Zhang have created more than just a restaurant—they’ve designed a destination where culinary craftsmanship and conceptual design collide, inviting diners to step into a new dimension of taste and experience.
